Turtle ISland is 'fine dining' for Oak ISland, and the food, preparation and presentation are excellent. They know how to make scallops in all their forms! Try some of their jerk specials, and the steaks are great too. We've never had a bad meal here, and the servers are professional and want you to enjoy your meal. They have surf and turf, all types of seafood, chicken, pork, you name it. Very good and you'll enjoy the flavors.

Tremendous meal in a busy atmosphere. If you are a fan of great seafood served in great portions, this is the place for you. My experience was on a Wednesday evening which is Steamers Night at Turtle Island (at least it was this July '09 when we were there). Our party of 8 included 6 adults and 2 children. It is a loud place, but we were on vacation and had children with us, so loud wasn't a big deal. If you like a bar scene, the bar at this place is quite large and quite busy. If you like good food where not EVERYTHING is deep fried (some is, but not all of it), this place is perfect for you. From the Oysters to the Shrimp and Grits, the meal couldn't have been better. Service was great and if it was just a little quieter I would have given them 5 stars easy. They take reservations every night but Wednesday night (Steamers Night). Enjoy!

Our family of four adults went on a very busy Wednesday night. We had to wait about 20 minutes for a table. This was their first night open after Christmas break, and we were told that it was busier than they expected. It's a casual atmosphere, pretty noisy, but nothin' wrong with that. Service was professional and friendly. Appetizers were served very quickly. The grits&shrimp was terrific - I hadn't had anything quite like that before. The conch fritters were fine. The wait for the entrees was considerably longer. The thai seared tuna was terrific. The tuna was properly cooked, meaning that it was pink from 1/4 inch in. The mango grouper was fresh and nicely seasoned with a nice variety of sides. A fish sandwich was tasty but not so special. A caesar salad was quite nice with their home-made dressing. All the dishes were presented very attractively. Tab with 1 beer and 1 tea was $92 after tax, before tip.

Consistently good food. Try the deserts they are all made in house.

Worth the wait! Visited July 2012 Have eaten there every July for the last 3 years and will continue to do so. The food is always fantastic. Great seafood (though I find the skewered shrimp presented in a V as a bit tacky; absolutely delicious, but tacky). The low country food is very satisfying. Love the hush puppies! We've eaten at the bar each time we were there so cannot comment on the dining room. Service has always been top notch. The one time there was an issue with our order being significantly delayed, the owner/manager comped the entire meal. We talked to him when we were waiting for a table and he's a classy guy. He talked of renovations being planned so we can't wait to see the changes!

The decor is cheesy, even for a small beach town, but, that doesn't effect how the food tastes. Whenever we visit Oak Island, Turtle Island is a must. Usually, we order a combination of appetizers, wings, oysters, and soup for our dinner, and are always pleased. My family has a thing for steamed oysters, and Turtle's does not disappoint (some batches get more salty than we like, but they're still out of this world). Oyster juice, crab milk, or steamed shrimp water running down your arms is pure bliss. The place gets crowded very quickly, but, since the food usually comes out pretty fast, we've never found it to be a huge problem. As another reviewer mentioned, they don't offer bread or hush puppies while you wait, and that's my only complaint as the waiting area is the bar area, and your stomach goes off every time a tray of mouthwatering food goes by. It's loud and busy, has tacky decor, and a poor waiting area; making it unappealing to many, but, the food is more than worth it, as are the icy cold beers from the bar!

My wife and I stopped in for dinner after watching the sun set on the Atlantic. Since it was Wednesday half priced appetizers, the place was packed. I was real surprised we were seated quickly. I was even more surprised when our order came so quickly. My wife ordered a king crab leg cluster and a dozen local oysters on the half shell. She said they were both great. I ordered blacken tuna and it came with some french fries and some mixed vegetables. It was very good too. We also had four beers and it came to $52. Very nice.

Our party of six went here for dinner last Thursday. The grilled shrimp was very good. The crab meat was not so good. Everything else was ok. It is a bit dark inside. Service was very friendly.

Best restaurant we've eaten at in OakIsland Island/Southport by far. Hubby and I shared some steamed crab legs (yum), he got the grouper, and I had the whole baby flounder. It was awesome!! I'm always shocked at how the food isn't very good in Southport, but this place was great! Just be prepared for a wait. It's pretty small.

This was a nice stop along the way, my wife and I were looking for a good, casual inexpensive place for seafood, and this fits the bill. There was about a 35 minute wait to be expected on a Friday night, we waited outside with our drinks and the weather was fantastic. The food was delicious, I would recommend the fried seafood dinner served calabash style. Great atmosphere, great service, would definitely recommend

Food is consistently outstanding. Ambiance is mediocre, but food presentation is above average. My parents are regulars and never seem to have a bad meal (their meal is typically an appetizer portion). Crowded and cluttered, don't go here if you want a quite dinner with space to stretch out. If you want good food and a fun atmosphere, then this is your place.

I thought I was in the Florida Keys... Cool and laid back place with good food. Excellent oysters ! Everyone in our party said their food was very good. They didn't have a beer or drink list but that didn't seem to matter as there seemed to be an ample selection to imbibe on. Oak Island is a laid back place, Turtle Island is a perfect place to end you nice day at the beach.

Great food, large portions, and good waitstaff. Recommend the crab dip. They use interesting and tasty herbs and spices. Salads are fresh and good sized i liked the crab stuffed flounder A bit expensive for kids.
